In addition to the tributes for Kobe Bryant, many have remembered 13-year-old Gianna Bryant as an up-and-coming basketball talent who held special relationships with players across the game.
Trae Young, who was Gianna’s favourite player in the NBA, has already paid homage to GiGi on Twitter, and now her favourite WNBA player, Gabby Williams of the Chicago Sky, shared a message as well.
Williams was drafted 4th overall in 2018 out of UConn, where GiGi had long dreamed of playing her collegiate ball. Playing an exhibition against the U.S. national team on Monday, the Huskies honoured Gianna by reserving a seat on the bench for her No. 2 jersey.
In recent years, Kobe has become a frequent presence at WNBA games with GiGi, and in 2018 he told Jimmy Kimmel that she would carry on his basketball legacy, a clip that is going viral once again.
