The Toronto Blue Jays became the talk of the MLB for nearly a week when a federal ruling came down barring them from playing their home games in Toronto. With every other MLB team able to use their familiar territory for the league’s restart, it was seen as a distinct disadvantage for the Jays.
Then the question became, where would the team play? Dunedin, Florida, seemed to make the most sense from a logistical standpoint. Improvements were made to the facilities, and it is still relatively familiar for the team as they conduct Spring Training out of the ballpark.
Unfortunately, Florida’s rate of COVID-19 infection was way too high, making the option undesirable.
Then it seemed like maybe the team would be playing out of Buffalo, where their minor league affiliate the Buffalo Bisons plays. While this seemed like a viable option, it still doesn’t have the same feel as a big league park. It’s hard to fully feel like you’re playing an important regular season game when it feels like you’re in the minors.
Most recently, it looks like the Jays may end up using PNC Park – home of the Pittsburgh Pirates – to act as their park for most of their home games. In response to this news, fans were quick to fire up Photoshop and put out their best mashup logos. We did too!
UPDATE: According to Will Graves of the Associated Press, Pennsylvania will not allow the Jays to play at PNC Park. Enjoy the logos anyway!
