Itโ€™s been 50 years since Marshall University experienced one of the biggest sports tragedies all-time.

On November 14th, 1970, a plane carrying the Marshall University football team home from a loss to East Carolina was approaching the runway when it hit the tops of trees on a hilltop, causing the plane to lose control and crash. All 75 people, including 37 team members, died in what was deemed an โ€œunsurvivable crash.โ€

In 2006, We Are Marshall starring Matthew McConaughey dramatized the crash and depicted the fallout of the tragedy.

On Saturday, the official 50-year anniversary, the Marshall Thundering Herd play the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in what is sure to be an emotional game. Ahead of the game, Marshall released an awesome video to announce that they will be wearing black jerseys in honour of the 75 victims.

This isnโ€™t the only tribute. West Virginia also announced that they would be featuring a helmet sticker honouring the victims of the crash.
