Now that Matt Cullen and Roberto Luongo have signed their retirement papers, there's a new elder statesman in the NHL.

Turning 43 in November, Zdeno Chara officially owns the title as the oldest NHL player now that Cullen is done playing hockey after 21 years. 136 days separated Big Z and Cullen, who were both drafted in 1996 and born in 1976.

Behind Chara are Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, who are both unrestricted free agent and could conceivably sign with the Sharks later this summer.

The last 43-year-old Bruin to suit up for the club was Mark Recchi, who helped the Bruins win the 2011 Stanley Cup over the Canucks.

Chara joins a list of Vince Carter, Adam Vinatieri, Marleau and Thornton as the only active players  in the four North American who debuted in the 90's.
