Mascot culture went to a whole new level with the emergence of social media. The colourful creature that used to just be in-arena or sideline entertainment have now taken to the internet, with social accounts linked to each mascot filling up with bonus content.
Beyond the videos and photos that may get some laughs, mascots also have the ability to comment on happenings in the sport. Beyond that, they actually have the opportunity to take shots at each other in very public tweet-offs.
The Oregon Duck and the Washington Huskies’ mascot Harry got into a particularly entertaining tweet-off, where the two took shots via the mild chirp.
