TJ Oshie is known to be a player with some of the silkiest mitts in all of hockey. The Capitals’ winger got that reputation through his numerous shootout performances, but we credit him with one of our favourite new moves.
Over the summer, Pavel Barber and Sasha Barkov showed off their skills with a similar move in one of Barber’s hockey challenges: The Fake Slapshot. Somehow, you have to have hands quick enough to stop your momentum from a full windup, still just tap the buck and then pull it back on your backhand. Oshie makes it look easy time and time again.
The first time we saw him pull it off was way back when some NHL players teamed up with GoPro to show off some of their moves and his was one of the best segments.
Now, we need to see this move in a real game. Just about every other practice dangle has been tried in some capacity on the ice, but we’ve yet to see this pulled off for real. Just imagine Oshie sitting in between the hash marks on the powerplay, pretending to tee up a one-timer before walking a guy into the slot and roofing one.
This needs to happen.
