On Thursday Evening, Wayne Gretzky took to his Twitter account to share the news that his father and Canadian legend Walter Gretzky had passed away at the age of 82.
Within Wayne’s post, he shed light on his late father’s courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease along with other his health complications.
He then went on to share how Walter touched the lives of those around him. From being the “team captain” of the Gretzky family to the inspiration for Wayne falling in love with the sport that his father continuously helped coach him within.
Along with the news, Wayne shared a photo of Walter dancing with his late wife Phyllis who had passed away due to lung cancer back in 2005.
Walter Gretzky was the definition of what it means to be a proud Canadian. From coaching Wayne into the hockey legend he became, to being a major contributor for minor hockey within Canada at all grassroots levels. He was Canada's Hockey dad.
