When playing in Toronto, the Raptors call Scotiabank Arena home. Of course, it’s not just their home. The Toronto Maple Leafs also occupy the building.
Due to unforeseen 2020 circumstances, the Raptors will now be sharing an arena with an entirely different NHL team. The Tampa Bay Lightning!
With border restrictions acting as an obstacle for Toronto – the only Canadian NBA team – it was decided that the Raps would call Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay home. While that already seems strange to think about, the strangeness hits even harder when you watch the Lightning’s home transform into the Raptors home.
On Tuesday, we got a pretty sweet time lapse of the process.
It's been a big year for Tampa Bay. The Lightning won the Stanley Cup in the NHL, the Rays made the World Series in the MLB, and the Bucs became one of the most intriguing teams in the league after bringing in legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Now the city even has a reason to be excited for the one major North American sports organization it doesn’t directly compete in!
That was helped even further by the announcement that fans would be allowed to attend home games in a very limited capacity.
