Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is filling out every single crevice of his potential in 2021 and showing exactly why he’s been such a sought after baseball player for years. Beyond the best-case-scenario bloodlines he’s always possessed, Vladdy has become one of the most dangerous hitters in the MLB.
It seems like every day he sets a new record, records a new benchmark, or joins a new club. It was the latter on Monday when he ripped his 22nd home run over Fenway Park’s green monster, as he became one of just eight MLBers 22 years old or younger to hit 22 homers in 64 games.
Some people look at stats like this and immediately shrug it off as being “ToO sPeCiFic,” but this is seriously impressive. It’s rare that a player hits 22 home runs in any 64-game stretch of their career, but to do so while still growing and developing into a major league ball player is even more impressive. Just imagine how high his ceiling is as he continues to approach the “peak” years of his career.
To put it into perspective, each of the first four names on the list (Mel Ott, Joe DiMaggio, Harmon Killebrew, Johnny Bench) have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Alex Rodriguez would be a shoe-in for Cooperstown had it not been for the marring of PEDs.
The final two names on the list, Bryce Harper and Cody Bellinger, are two of the best hitters in the game today. Whether their careers finish in the Hall of Fame will be decided years from now, but if Vladdy is in the same conversation as them then you know it’s serious.
