They did it, they finally did it… England won in by way of penalty shots!
The tiebreaking format that has historically haunted the English national team finally gave a little slack to the deprived nation. Despite being considered a one of the tournament favourites just about every World Cup, England hasn’t won in over 60 years.
Well, they’re either on their way to long awaited soccer glory, or towards another crushing heartbreak. After leading 1-0 heading into 90+ time, it set the stage for exactly what you’d expect – a Colombian goal.
Extra time was played, with England looking sluggish, before they reached their vaunted shootout. Fighting off the first miss of the shootout with a Colombia miss and an English save, England finally won.
The fan reaction says it all.
Despite their perennial broken hearts, England fans represent one of the most passionate followings in the world. Just imagine what would happen if they’re able to pull off a World Cup victory *knock on wood*
