The UFC was hit with a big blow less than 24 hours before UFC 249 as Jacare Souza tested positive for COVID-19, cancelling his bout with Uriah Hall.
For both fighters it was a chance to return to a UFC Pay-Per-View event for the first time since 2018, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen now. While the fight has been dropped from the preliminary card, the show as a whole will still go on.
Shortly after the news broke, Hall reached out to Souza with a classy message, wishing him nothing but recovery.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that a member of Souza’s family previously tested positive for COVID-19, while Ariel Helwani later reported that two of Souza’s cornermen also tested positive for the coronavirus, which is probably why Hall mentioned Souza’s family in his tweet.
Wishing nothing but recovery to Souza and his cornermen.
