No one's quite sure why, but for some reason there are Rugby fans who don't believe that they're allowed to like American Football and vice versa. It's as if there's a certain code that states that if you're watching a sport where someone tackles someone without pads, you're not allowed to enjoy a sport where they tackle with pads.

Anyone who knows anything about both sports knows that they're quite different from one another. In fact, they're so different from one another that when you watch a game of football being played by people not wearing pads, it becomes immediately obvious as to why they should be wearing pads. Case and point.

Football the way you played in your backyard. No pads, full contact.

Forward passes and two sides running full speed at one other with a large head start is kind of dangerous without pads. Especially when people are not aiming to do wrap tackles, instead electing to leave their feet and launch themselves into you.

Works when you're playing school yard football, as kids don't run as quickly or kit as hard. Not so much when you grown ups do it. The result? Sacked lunch (*yum, yum, yum, yum, yum*).
