Tyler Seguin is ready for the NHL season and he let everyone know with a tarps-off preseason photo, exposing all of his protective gear and we couldn’t help but notice one thing.
If you play hockey, you’ll know that part of the reason that it’s so expensive is how often you have to replace certain pieces of equipment. Sticks, skates, gloves and plenty of other items often need to be updated or replaced, but one pair of items never seems to change: the elbow pads.
Of course, elbow pads can wear down just like any other piece of equipment, but nobody ever wants to change them. A new, big, bulky elbow pad can be one of the most uncomfortable new pieces of equipment, so a lot of people just never end up changing them.
Like Tyler Seguin, who in this photo is still wearing RBK 7K elbow pads, which stopped being made in 2007.
It’s possible that he just loved those elbow pads so much that he bought a ton of different pairs, but we’re going to go with him just refusing to change. He wasn’t even in the league until 2010, so he has to have had those elbow pads for his entire NHL career.
So there you have it, even when you’re making millions and can get most gear free, it’s still not worth it to change those elbow pads.
