The penalty flag often becomes the centre of attention in an NFL game, but it’s usually because of a bad call (like that holding call that just negated an awesome A.J. Green touchdown). This week, the penalty flags found themselves in the spotlight briefly for completely different reasons.

1st. Marcus Peters threw a penalty flag into the crowd.

Sometimes players let their frustration get the best of them, and Peters simply had enough of the refs and their stinkin’ penalties. Unfortunately, that drew another penalty.

2nd. A ref delivered a headshot to Falcons’ centre Alex Mack

Getting hit with a penalty flag isn’t that uncommon, but getting hit and proceeding to crumple to the turf as if you’d been hit by a baseball is another. Alex Mack found himself in the later.

Former teammate Joe Thomas made sure that Mack knew he’d been caught in a soccer-esque turf slam.

But the best moment comes if you clip them together, appearing to show Peters throw the flag from New York and hit Alex Mack in the head in Atlanta.
