Athletes are superstitious people, and some are just a little stitious, which has led to some bizarre competitions outside the actual game.

In the NHL we’ve seen players on different teams make sure someone from the visiting team is not the last person off the ice during pre-game warm-ups. In baseball, it’s the good ol’ standoff after the national anthem.

On Wednesday night the Batavia Muckdogs and the West Virginia Black Bears went head-to-head with first place in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division on the line and a player from each side went head-to-head in something other than baseball.

Once the national anthem wrapped up, Black Bears’ Ryan Haug and Muckdogs’ Harrison DiNicola did not move a muscle and remained in a standoff on the field. However, since there was a game that needed to be played, their teammates picked them up and moved them to the dugouts and for the remainder of the night they had some fun decorating their teammate.

The standoff lasted three and a half hours and it was DiNicola who came out on top.
