Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is playing some of the best hockey of his life, but fans may not get to see him in action for too much longer.
Rask, is arguably the front-runner for this year's Vezina Trophy (assuming it is awarded) after leading all goaltenders with a 2.12 goals against average, finishing seventh in total wins with 26 and placing second in the eague with a .929 goals against average, but the Finnish netminder is apparently considering hanging up his skates following the 2020-21 season. Rask told the Boston Globe that retirement is a "possibility," citing a desire to be at home and the "wear and tear of travelling" with kids as his reasons.
Rask is currently in the seventh year of an eight-year, $56 million contract and will be just 34 by the time it expires. The Bruins' current backup is 35-year-old Jaroslav Halak, who's scheduled to become a free agent after this season. Rask won a Stanley Cup as a backup with the Bruins in 2011 and has returned as a starter twice since (2013, 2019). Rask won the Vezina in 2014.
Rask has played more games than any Bruins goaltender in franchise history with 536. It would be a huge loss for the Bruins if he decides to call it a career.
