A comparison to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes SHOULD be flattering, right?
Apparently not always.
Hall of Famer Troy Aikman caught eye of a tweet on Tuesday that points out Mahomes has thrown 36% of Aikman’s career touchdowns in about 8% of the games. Aikman, who is one of only four quarterbacks in NFL history to win at least three Super Bowls, pointed out that the reigning MVP hasn’t won a championship yet.
In fairness… Mahomes led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship in just his second season and first campaign as a starting quarterback. Aikman didn’t reach the Super Bowl until his fourth season and passed for a career high 3,445 yards and 23 touchdowns on the way. The league has obviously changed since, but Mahomes more than doubled that touchdown total (50) and threw for 5,097 yards. Oh- and did we mention Aikman also had the #1 defence AND the league leader in rushing yards that year?
This isn’t to take anything form Aikman. He was named NFL 80th all-time player in 2010 for crying out loud. But hopefully this gives you some perspective on just how good Patty’s been since entering the league and how much it's changed since.
(H/T Troy Aikman)
