Say what you will about John Tortorella, but in the spirit of trying to keep things positive, we’ll just say this: Torts doesn’t care who you are, where you got drafted, or how much starpower you do or don’t have, he’ll treat you exactly the same as the guy next to you on the bench.
Now, whether or not the treatment his players get is always the best course of action can definitely be up for debate, but that’s a different story.
Whatever the case, Max Domi is the most recent victim of Torts’ fearlessness when it comes to benching players that literally no one else in the league would.
Nice, Torts.
Though we know most other coaches still wouldn’t have done this, there is a bit of context as to why this happened. In the Blue Jackets’ last game, Domi was -4 in just around 10 minutes of ice time, and has been in a couple of emotional exchanges the last couple of games that his bench boss definitely wouldn’t have appreciated.
So, to recap, Torts has dampened the spirits of PLD, Patrik Laine, and Jack Roslovic this season. Definitely not a great look for the long time NHL coach.
