Vince Carter had a tumultuous relationship with the city of Toronto. After being credited with helping to bring basketball into the forefront of Canada, Carter had a dramatic falling out – one which involved fans believing him to be faking an injury, and one that just about everyone knew involved “Air Canada” wanting to leave.

And when VC15 was eventually traded to the then New Jersey Nets, it would have been pretty hard to picture him getting a touching goodbye from the team and the fans. He was booed relentlessly, he was public enemy number one north of the border.

Here we are with Carter still playing into the 2020 season somehow, and he’s made it official that he is finally done. He finishes his career with no NBA Championships, but a highlight reel of dunks and moments that will keep his name in basketball lore regardless.

To say goodbye, the Raps tweeted out a special farewell message, and followed it up with a look back at the superstar dunker’s illustrious career.

What once seemed impossible, it no longer seems like a stretch to see #15 raised to the rafters of Scotiabank Arena one of these days.
