Tomas Tatar was selected 60th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and went on to play 407 games in a Red Wings uniform before he was shipped to the Vegas Golden Knights at this year’s trade deadline in exchange for three draft picks.

Although there were rumours about Tatar getting dealt leading up to the deadline, it was still tough for some Red Wings fans to soak in considering there’s only five players on the current roster who have spent more time in a Red Wings jersey than Tatar. Before departing Detroit for Las Vegas, the 27-year-old shared a heartfelt message with Red Wings fans on his social media platforms.

“I would like to thank everyone in the @detroitredwings organization. To my friends and teammates that have become family, I will miss you. To all of the great fans of Detroit, your support means more than you will know. I also want to thank @vegasgoldenknights for giving me the opportunity to start the next chapter of my career.”

Tatar is currently on pace for his lowest point total in a full season as he has 16 goals and just 28 points in 62 games, but he’ll get a chance to turn things around when he joins the second-highest scoring team in the NHL. In 407 games with Detroit, Tatar scored 115 goals and added 107 assists for 222 points.
