Move over Peyton, your time as the NFL’s all-time touchdown leader is DONE.
On Monday night, Drew Brees surpassed the soon-to-be Hall of Famer with his 540th career touchdown pass. The score came on an easy five-yard toss to Josh Hill and it didn’t take long before the fans at the Superdome were on their feet, cheering on the greatest player in their team’s history. Brees received support from around the league, most notably from an active player who sits just behind him with 538.
We’re talking of course about Tom Brady.
The 42-year-old took to his own Twitter account after witnessing the milestone to congratulate his long-time opponent.
All class from one great to another!
So now we find ourselves in a bit of a weird situation. What’s going to happen if the two continues to exchange touchdowns? If Brady throws for three on Sunday against the Bills, and Brees theoretically surpasses him again against the Titans… will he get another standing ovation? The two don’t seem to be done playing anytime soon either, so we might see numerous leader changes over the next few seasons.
Regardless, this is still an incredible accomplishment and it’s nice to see players around the league dish out their support. Congrats Drew on another milestone in the books!
