It’s not very often you see athletes giving non-generic answers in interviews. There are some figures around the world of sports that are known for a willingness to speak their mind, but for the most part players are so intensively media trained that they give watered-down answers that won’t usually cause a stir.

Tom Brady would fall into that category for the most part, where he’s part of a Patriots’ system that values “doing your job” above anything else. However, that’s not always the case.

On Monday, Brady was asked at the Milken Institute Global Conference if he feels appreciated in New England. While the answer everyone was expecting would go something along the lines of “Oh yeah, the fans and the team are always making me feel the love, blah, blah, blah…” Brady instead surprised the audience with an unexpected answer.

Pleading the 5th, which means he does not wish to answer the question, actually speaks volumes. He goes on to squirm around a bit, trying to explain he feels how anyone else would feel, and then he wraps it up with an awkward revelation that his happiness “has its moments”. For one of the most decorated players to ever take the gridiron, he doesn’t quite seem to be totally pleased at this point. Maybe another championship or two would do it…
