One of the best parts about minor league teams in professional sports is that they have some of the best promotional nights in the entire sports world.
Whether it’s Star Wars themed night, or games honouring the Mighty Ducks movies, leagues like the ECHL do a great job at incorporating certain movies, themes or bands as a promotion.
A few days ago, the Kalamazoo Wings (the Vancouver Canucks ECHL affiliate for the Utica Comets) announced they’d be throwing a special Grateful Dead night for an upcoming game on Saturday, February 10th.
Proceeds of the jerseys auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.
One of the Wings Central Division rivals have decided that they’ll be throwing a similar themed night that also has a charitable intivtiative. The Toledo Walleye announced on Wednesday that the team will host a Zombie Night on Saturday, March 10th with proceeds supporting the American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio and the Walleye Wishing Well.
The Walleye will wear a special edition Zombie-themed jersey that fans will be able to bid for during a live action at the conclusion of the game.
Fans are encouraged to dress up like a zombie, which means fans attending will see a ton of fake blood and guts at the Huntington Center.
The Walleye, of course, are a freshwater fish found across North America. Check out how the Walleye’s logo will be tweaked for the specialty night.
This isn’t the first time the Walleye have thrown a special promotional night. They’ve done the Zombie night in previous seasons by honouring the Walking Dead, as well as Marvel and Christmas-themed nights.
