When it comes to rookie of the year in the NBA this season, you basically have two options to choose from. There’s triple-double machine Ben Simmons, who was a huge part of a resurgent Philadelphia 76ers team, and Donovan Mitchell, who was integral in one of the most unexpected campaigns coming from the Utah Jazz.

Of course, some would say that there is only one option. That is because Simmons and Mitchell were not drafted in the same year, so some say that Simmons, who was drafted a year earlier, is ineligible. If that were the case, Simmons rookie campaign would have been a 2016-17 season that he sat out the entire year with injury.

On Monday, Boston fans took it upon themselves to remind Simmons of the technicality.

“Not a rookie” chants at Ben Simmons. 😂

One person that was loving this chant was fellow rookie of the year candidate Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell, from his social media accounts, was making sure that everyone knew he was having a laugh while watching Simmons deal with the chants.

@spidadmitchell’s comment 😂

It's not the first time Mitchell has responded to the debate. He even went so far as to wear a hoodie explaining how he felt about the issue.

Made it 🙃

If Mitchell wants to win the award, you’d think he would want to do it organically. Bringing technicalities into the matter almost says “yes he played better, but I still want it.”
