Cool news hockey fans! One of the game’s great legends got to witness his son take the next step in his own hockey journey.

On Thursday, Tij Iginla, the son of recent Hall of fame inductee Jarome Iginla, was selected ninth overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. Tij, 15, has six goals and five assists through 10 games this season with Kelowna’s U18 Rink Hockey academy of the CSSHL U18.

You can definitely see similarities between the two other than, you know, the flow. Tij has some fire lettuce!

Jarome dominated for the Blazers in his day, capturing back-to-back Memorial Cup trophies in 1994 & ’95 before eventually getting drafted 11th overall by the Dallas Stars. Tij has a ways to go, but he already represented Team British Columbia at the 2021-22 WHL Cup where he had two goals and an assist in five contests.

Tij is definitely someone to keep an eye on as he continues his pursuit of an NHL career. Congrats to the entire Iginla family!
