When you watch commercials today, you likely hardly even register what is being advertised. We have become so adjusted to tuning out ads, that their increase in ridiculousness have just numbed us out even more.
Somehow, it’s the older commercials that stick with us. Maybe it’s because they weren’t trying so hard to be ridiculous, they just were.
Need an example? Take this Carolina Hurricanes commercial starring racing legend Richard Petty. It’s exactly as ridiculous as you would hope it to be.
Clad with his iconic #43 and in the Original STP colours, the racing legend whips around the ice at high speeds and apparently gets the ice resurfaced in under 6 minutes. Let’s be honest though, that’s some questionable form.
Petty has been inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and the Diecast Hall of Fame. On top of that he’s been voted NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver eight times, won Rookie of the Year (1959), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom… Just to name a few of his achievements.
