What’s the greatest rivalry in the NHL right now? Sure, there’s the classics like Habs, Leafs. There’s the budding rivalries, like the California teams. There’s the geographical battles, like Pennsylvania, New York, and Florida.
Is there any on the level of the Battle of Alberta, though? We think not.
The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have always been bitter rivals, but ever since Matthew Tkachuk took a couple runs at Oilers tough guy Zack Kassian, the Battle of Alberta has been must-watch hockey. While the iconic moment may be Mike Smith and Cam Talbot dropping the goalie gloves, the Kassian vs. Tkachuk story line was definitely the most drawn out.
That’s what made this Cameo from Kassian so incredibly surprising.
Cameo is a platform where fans send scripts to celebrities to be read back for a fee, sometimes for charity and other times just for the celebrity. Obviously Kassian isn’t speaking his true thoughts, and you can hear the pain in his voice and he softly concludes with “Go Flames.”
Don’t worry, we’re pretty sure this won’t defuse the Battle of Alberta’s intensity. Not one bit.
