By this point in his career, Tom Brady is essentially seen as an ultra-dominant, football robot. He’s not the fastest, he doesn’t have the strongest arm, he simply wins big games, whether it’s with the New England Patriots or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He wasn’t always seen as the gridiron equivalent of a super hero (or super villain), though. Perhaps the greatest underdog story the game’s ever seen, Brady wasn’t drafted until the 5th round, #199 overall, back in 2000 before terrorizing the league for two decades.
With Brady set to enter his 10th Super Bowl, NFL Films posted a flashback clip of Brady discussing Draft Day. While we don’t really consider it too much, the day is a hugely emotional one for those hopeful to enter the league.
It's rare you see Brady overcome with emotion like that, and when he is it’s usually out of joy. We may get another taste of the celebratory Brady if the Bucs manage to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, but if he loses at least he’s got, you know, SIX rings already.
How’s that for #199?
