Things quickly went from bad to worse for Gerard Gallant on Wednesday morning.

If getting axed by the Golden Knights (after leading the team to a Stanley Cup appearance and the playoffs in his first two seasons!) wasn’t enough, the 56-year-old quickly discovered he was replaced by former division rival Peter DeBoer, someone who he doesn’t appear to be very fond of. Let’s flash back to April, when the two bench bosses squared off in the first round of the 2019 postseason. After DeBoer claimed Gallant chirps players, the latter proceeded to call his adversary a clown. Now… it’s Pete having the last laugh.

Oh yikes.

Fans haven’t forgotten about it either:

Vegas currently sits tied with the Jets and Canucks with 54 points in the Western Conference. Gallant’s track record should help him resurface in the NHL’s coaching circle soon, but this one is definitely a bit surprising to say the least.

The Golden Knights have fired head coach Gerard Gallant. He will be replaced by Peter DeBoer.
