Think back to when you were younger. Us Canadians had our own outlets to watch hockey on but over in the states, ESPN was the go-to station for hockey content. Well, news broke earlier this week that the powerhouse broadcasting network reached a seven-year deal with the NHL to air NHL games. The deal is reportedly worth more than $2.8 billion and is expected to bring in more than $400 million annually to the league. Some pretty big news, but let’s forget the numbers for a second and focus on what’s REALLY important.
The opening song.
Everyone was wondering… what will ESPN do to introduce its broadcast? As it turns out, they’re sticking to their roots and bringing back their classic tune. In case you forgot about it… just listen to this banger:
Ohhhhh BABY. Doesn’t that get your fired up?! The hockey world seems to be pretty happy with the decision as well:
That last animation too… baby!
The theme song was composed by Bobby Christianson and used by ESPN from 1992-2004. It’s coming back with a vengeance and we couldn’t be happier, although we will miss the NHL on NBC tune as well. Buckle up hockey fans and getcha popcorn ready!!!!
