The Battle of Alberta has always been a bitter one, but it got a little extra sour this year. In what has become normal in the last few years, this year once again marked players leaving one side of the Albertan rivalry and joining the other.
It happens, but there was one particular swap that has the whole league talking. While many maybe would have expected this swap to be the goalies – Mike Smith and Cam Talbot, who were both suiting up for the opposing squad this time last year – the real deal that everyone is talking about is, in fact, the Real Deal himself.
Real Deal James Neal found himself headed north to Edmonton after being traded for Milan Lucic. While it was generally seen as a swap of players that aren’t what they used to be, it has proven to be quite a disparity with the breakout of James Neal.
While we aren’t expecting him to keep this pace, it’s still a sign that he’s got a lot left in the tank than most were originally giving him credit for. Even if you did predict him being a useful asset on offence, we’re thinking that you didn’t predict he’d have such an impact there would be a goal song written about him…
We are truly unsure how to feel about this, but we’re huge supporters of parody here at @BarDown so we give it the silliness stamp of approval. If he keeps it up, let’s get a whole album out ther, eh?
