A new Gretzky is making her mark on the sports world and her skills have nothing to do with a hockey stick or pair of skates.

Mila Gretzky, the daughter of Brent and niece of Wayne has earned a spot on the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ Womens' Soccer team, the team’s Twitter account announced. A defender previously living in Brantford, Ontario, Gretzky joins Nebraska after spending time with Ontario’s Salt Fleet Stoney Creek Soccer Club.

At 5’10, it’s safe to say Mia inherited her dad and uncle’s height!

Gretzky also played for her high school of North Park Collegiate where she was coached by Emilio Melfi in Brantford. She was ultimately named the varsity athlete of the year after also competing in cross country, track and field, basketball and volleyball. In track, she won the 200, 400 and 800 meter competitions.

Mila is of course part of a long list of Gretzkys to excel in sport. Apart from her dad and uncle, Wayne’s son Trevor was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 7th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft. It also doesn’t hurt that Wayne’s daughter Paulina is married to Dustin Johnson, who just so happens to be one of the best golfers in the world.

Thanks kid for an amazing show @paulinagretzky

Some families are just born with strong athletic genes and others aren’t. Safe to say the Gretzkys are all around a pretty gifted bunch!
