It is not a fun year to be a Houston Astro.
Following the cheating scandal where it was revealed that the ‘Stros were using cameras to steal signs and tip pitches to their batters, many thought the team should have their 2017 World Series title stripped. The team was allowed to keep their title, but the shaming that ensued league wide is unprecedented in the MLB.
Cheaters are going to pay the price, that much is for sure.
On that note, the New York Yankees may want to put up their blast shields because it looks like they may be next in line at the gallows. A judge’s ruling revealed that the pinstripes may be involved in a sign stealing scandal as well, also coming in during the 2017 season.
The sign stealing case against the Yankees was dismissed back in April, but now it’s being alleged that the team was engaged in a “more serious, sign-stealing scheme.” The Yankees aren’t the only ones that will be in hot water if this letter surfaces, as it would likely look pretty bad on commissioner Rob Manfred and the MLB too.
The Boston Red Sox were also found guilty of using the Apple Watch to steal signs, and adding a cover-up to the list is nightmare fuel for a league that is already struggling through this pandemic.
So what do the Yankees have to say about the impending release of this letter?
To that, the judge retorted that embarrassment is “not particularly weighty.”
Nothing has been proven or revealed as the letter is not allowed to be released until June 19, in which time the Yankees will likely make an emergency appeal.
