The Winter Classic may not count for any more than two points in the standings, but it certainly feels more significant than any other game of the year. It’s much more than just a hockey game, it’s a cultural spectacle, and host cities always want to do their best to show off when they’re given hosting duties.
Holy cow did Dallas ever do a good job of that. Maybe we should say holy pig instead.
The extremely Texas-themed affair was highlighted with Cowboy attire, mechanical bulls, and Troy Aikman, but more than anything else we appreciate the novelty of a pig race. An actual pig race.
If that wasn’t enough, the pigs were named after hockey players, with a few porky puns thrown in for fun.
Is it any surprise that Gabe the Babe won?
