It’s amazing to see what one player can do to an organization.
Nearly one month ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs were one of a handful of teams with 10/1 odds of winning the Stanley Cup. Good, but not the best. But after a busy opening day of free agency which saw the Leafs bring in John Tavares, The Leafs took over the top spot in the league. According to bodog, Toronto has the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup in 2019 at 7/1.
Here’s a look at what the odds looked like earlier in June compared to what they look like today.

Other Canadian teams saw their odds change as well. The Winnipeg Jets slightly fell after Paul Stastny jetted for the Vegas Golden Knights and the Oilers dropped to 1/25, still not bad considering how awful their previous season was.
Heading into last season, Toronto entered with odds of 14-1 per ESPN. After a strong 2016-17 season, the Oilers entered with odds of 9-1. Oh how the times have changed!
Leaf Fans should try not to get too far ahead of themselves, but this is obviously encouraging to see.
