For a lot of people, 2020 has generally been a year to forget. With COVID-19 continuing to spread, it’s safe to say a lot of the year was lost to the necessary health and safety response protocols.

Saying that, there are definitely a lot of moments to remember, for better or for worse.

A frequently updated Wikipedia article tracks the most like posts on Instagram, and with the year coming to an end we’ve likely got a pretty accurate read on what the Top 10 posts of 2020 will be. Kylie Jenner claims four spots (with the help of Travis Scott and their daughter Stormi), while Ariana Grande (6th) and the post confirming Chadwick Boseman’s death (2nd) also landed on the list.

That leaves four posts, which all happen to have been posted by athletes. Unfortunately, three of them aren’t exactly happy posts.

The 9th most liked Instagram post of 2020 (and 17th all-time) was Cristiano Ronaldo’s birthday post.

The 5th most liked Instagram post of 2020 (and 10th all-time) was LeBron James posting in memory of Kobe Bryant following his tragic helicopter crash.

The 3rd most liked Instagram post of 2020 (and 6th most all-time) was Lionel Messi remembering fellow Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona.

And finally, the number one most liked Instagram post of 2020, and 3rd most all-time, was Cristiano Ronaldo remembering Diego Maradona.

There you have it. Hopefully next year’s posts from the world of sports will be a little happier.
