The Toronto Maple Leafs made some positive noise in the hockey community last week after they brought a couple of females onto their staff. The team confirmed on Thursday the hiring of six-time Olympian Hayley Wickenheiser as their assistant director of player development and Noelle Needham as an amateur scout. The latter had spent the past nine years running Legend Hockey in Sioux Falls South Dakota and co-founded the Sioux Falls Power Tier I hockey club, and clearly knows who her stuff based on the Leafs’ hiring process. According to Reddit Hockey, the Leafs used a unique hiring strategy which ended up working in Needham’s favour.
The following was found at Reddit Hockey:
Not too shabby Mr. Dubas.
The GM, who stands as the league’s second youngest general manager at the age of 31, has quickly established himself as one of the league’s more progressive thinkers. After landing both Needham and Wickenheiser, he had this to say:
Needham will look to add to what is already one of hockey’s youngest cores, and prove that Dubas truly is one of the more brilliant minds in the game today.
