The NHL is bracing itself for what will likely be its most bizarre year to date and teams are taking certain measures to ensure they’re able to play as many of their games as scheduled.

Count the Ottawa Senators as on team taking extra precautions in the case an outbreak of Covid-19 spreads around their dressing room. The Sens have implemented a rule which requires goaltenders to sit spread out from one another in the case a player contracts it in the room. Head coach D.J. Smith referenced the Broncos’ quarterback situation from earlier this NFL season in which their entire QB room was at risk after Jeff Dryskol tested positive.

That’s some quick thinking. For reference, the Broncos were forced to start former quarterback and practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton. We think an emergency backup goalie would do a bit better than Hinton (one reception, two inceptions), but you get the point.

Covid has already impacted numerous teams around the league. According to the league, 27 players have been impacted from nine different teams.

Quick thinking by the Sens, and a strategy more teams should look into. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get to this point in the first place.
