It was all but a formality going into the draft, but now it’s official: 14-year-old Connor Bedard, the first player in WHL history to be granted exceptional status, is joining the Regina Pats.

Bedard, a North Vancouver native, last played with the CSSHL's West Vancouver Warriors, notching 43 goals and 41 assists in 36 games. As an exceptional status player, he'll be eligible to join the Pats right away.

If you want to get familiar with what makes Bedard so special, the CSSHL posted a video of his highlights to Twitter.

Exceptional status has only been granted to six other players (John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day and Shane Wright in the OHL, as well as Joe Veleno in the QMJHL.
