This year marks the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. With his prosthetic leg forcing him to run with his signature hop, Fox set off on a journey to cross Canada in hopes of raising money and awareness for cancer.
The incredible showing of determination and perseverance has lived on in legacy despite Fox having to end his run in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It is believed that over $750 million has been raised as a result of the journey, and on Wednesday, adidas decided to honour Fox with a commemorative 40th anniversary re-release of the shoes he wore.
When Fox first embarked on his historic run, he knew he would need help. He wrote a letter to adidas, who responded with 26 pairs of shoes. With so much legacy behind these shoes, it didn’t take long for the shoes to sell out. Some say minutes, others are saying seconds.
Proceeds to to the Terry Fox Foundation.
It takes a special person to band a country together as much as Terry Fox did. His legacy isn’t drying up anytime soon, that’s for sure.
