It’s no secret that the Tampa Bay Rays have struggled to get fans out to the stadium as they’ve owned the lowest average attendance per game in all of baseball since the 2012 season.
A big part of the reason why fans don’t tend to go to games at Tropicana Field is the atmosphere. It’s dark, quiet and very bland on most nights to the point where they’ve even had trouble attracting fans during successful seasons. On Tuesday afternoon, the Rays unveiled a plan for a new $900 million domed stadium that would relocate them to Ybor City from Tampa Bay and the artist renderings are incredible.
The new stadium will bring the outdoors inside as it will include a lot of glass walls and a translucent roof so they won’t have to worry about weather delays or taking the sunshine away from the fans.
Fans will benefit in a big way from the new stadium as it will be decided to offer a variety of unique seating options including picnic suits, a sand berm, fountain seats, swivel seats, a touch tank and family table seating.
While all of these renderings look absolutely incredible, it’s all just a plan right now. The new ballpark in Miami didn’t exactly boost attendance, so who knows how a new stadium will pan out for the Rays.
