The big club is known for its association with Drake, even repping OVO jerseys to show love to the rapper, but on Saturday, the G-League’s Raptors 905 were throwing it back to a younger era Drake with their custom jerseys.
For one night, the Degrassi basketball team was back in action.
The Raptors even had a themed entrance video with the classic Degrassi song, as well as several members of the show’s cast in the crowd for the night. (Nope, no Drake.)
As far as themed jerseys go, this is about as good as it gets. It nods to Drake’s partnership with their NBA affiliate, but at the same time, it’s just good old Canadian content — and those jerseys, taken right out of the show, are so clean. If these jerseys ever go on sale, they wouldn’t be a bad purchase at all.
Maybe we’ll even see Drake repping one of these, the next time we see him in his usual courtside seat with the Raptors. Just for old time’s sake.
We’re more used to seeing wacky theme night jerseys in hockey’s minor leagues, but if the Raptors 905 want to get creative with their jerseys, we’d be all for it — they’ll also be wearing African-inspired customs on Sunday for Black History Month.
