The Game Boy is an 8-bit handheld gaming console that was created by Nintendo and was a huge hit throughout the late 80’s and 1990’s.

According to a report from Ninten-Switch.com, Nintendo recently filed a trademark back on September 15, which included this image.

When translated to English, this is what the tweet reads.

[Commercial application 2017-123766] Trademark: [Image] / Applicant: Nintendo Co., Ltd. / Application date: September 15, 2017 / Segment: 9 (Programs for home video game machines, etc.), 14 (key holders and others) 18 (bag fittings etc), 21 (cosmetic tools etc), 25 (clothing others), 28 (home video game

The name isn’t specific on the trademark, but since there’s a chance that Nintendo might be bringing back the original Game Boy.

With that being said, we decided to make a list of some of the original games we would love to see get released along with the Game Boy.

Tecmo Bowl

EA Sports has managed to eliminate all their competition when it comes to NFL video games as Madden has been the must-own football games for decades. However, since we’re talking about the old school Game Boy we figured it would be more appropriate if they decided to bring back Tecmo Bowl as their go-to football video game. The graphics weren’t the greatest, but it’s all about the throwback feel.

Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball

Baseball fans couldn’t get enough of Ken Griffey Jr. once he made his MLB debut. He was the face of the league for many years thanks in part to how he approached the game, and this is one game that every baseball fan would love to have back, regardless of the system. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball featured all the real stadiums and teams, but Ken Griffey Jr. was the only real player in the game.

F-1 Race

Formula 1 video games have come a very long way since F-1 Race was released for the Game Boy in 1990. From different angles to switching gears, the current version of the game is as real as it gets, but that wasn’t the case back in the day. The Game Boy version of the game is a little different from the original NES edition, but is still as basic as it gets.

NBA Jam

This one is a no-brainer. Considering current NBA games have found ways to incorporate the old school NBA Jam gameplay, it’s safe to say that almost every basketball fan would purchase this game for Game Boy if Nintendo re-released the device and the old games. It doesn’t matter if you played this game at an arcade or at home, it definitely got you amped up while you played.

Blades of Steel

Releasing the current NHL video game on Game Boy would be a no brainer if they brought it back, but since we’re sticking to generic old school games for the list the hockey game that makes the cut is Blades of Steel. The game featured eight cities when it was released, which represented the cities that housed an NHL team at the time of development. The four Canadian cities in the game are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton, while the four American cities are New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Minnesota.

Hit the Ice

Hit the Ice is a three-on-three hockey video game with a cartoonish feel to it as the players involved in the game are all made up. One of the best parts of the game is that there are very rules involved. You can slash, trip, elbow, and even kick your opponents in the groin and could get away with it.

WWF King of the Ring

The modern day version of this game would have to be called WWE King of the Ring, but we’d want them to release this game with its original roster intact from the 1993 release. The Game Boy version consisted of nine wrestlers, which included Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Shawn Michael, Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect, “The Narcissist” Lex Luger, and “You”, a generic wrestler that the player can name and assign attributes for.

Soccer

The creators of this game thought long and hard about the name and decided to settle on Soccer. This game is as basic as it comes when it comes to sports video games, but that was the style back in the day. The game features eight national teams, which includes Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain, Argentina, England, Brazil, Japan and United States.
