Madison Square Gardens has a new villain, and his name is Trae Young.
The Hawks managed to pick up the first game of their series against the Knicks 107-105, which was largely thanks to Trae’s stunning playoff debut. Young, who scored the game winner, joined Derrick Rose, LeBron James, and Chris Paul as the only players in NBA history to score 30 points and 10 assists in their playoff debut.
Game one was also the first time fans were back in the stands in MSG for a playoff game, and they were in fine form with their merciless heckling of Trae Young. As mean as it seemed, it sounds like the added stress was just fuel to Trae’s fire.
The Trae trash talking continued today, but this time, it wasn’t from your average fan; it was from the New York City mayor! NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio had all the shade for Young, telling him to ‘stop hunting for fouls’.
We’re here for this! We’ll see if Trae and the Hawks can keep the momentum going when Game 2 kicks off tomorrow night.
