The Brooklyn Nets are going to emerge from free agency as big, and maybe the biggest, winners. How about for a Day 1 haul: They’re coming away with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan.
Durant is expected to miss most or all of next season due to the ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered in the Finals against the Raptors, but when he’s healthy — and perhaps even before that, considering the depth of this roster even before adding Kyrie and Jordan — this should turn the Nets into instant contenders in the East.
This might be the first big domino to fall in free agency. In addition to Kawhi Leonard, KD and Kyrie were arguably the top-tier prizes in this year’s free agency class, although of course, players such as Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker will also want a word. Still, the Nets now boast one of the top superstar cores out there.
Yeah, the basketball world’s minds were collectively blown.
