In addition to the new City Edition jerseys that every team in the NBA gets each year, playoff teams from the previous year are also rewarded with another special jersey known as the Earned Edition jersey.
While these jerseys don’t share the backstory or local tie-ins of the City jerseys, it is a pretty cool addition to the selection for playoff teams to boast about, and as you can see, there are some pretty designs in the mix this year.
You know what the deal is. Just like with the City jerseys, we’re going to rank them!
16. Orlando Magic
Respectfully, this feels like a Summer League jersey.
15. Dallas Mavericks
With their Earned Edition jersey, it looks like the Mavs have decided to go with... what seems to be a pretty generic Mavs jersey?
14. Boston Celtics
We like that the Celtics are staying with their classic design, but the addition of neon green trim over a forest green base is really throwing us off here. Mostly, the Celtics are sort of just caught in the trap of having regular jerseys so iconic that most spin-offs just can’t compare.
13. Houston Rockets
To be honest, we don’t love the black base on this jersey, which feels a bit run-of-the-mill, although the red detailing here is definitely sharp.
12. Oklahoma City Thunder
It’s nothing special, but we think it’s amusing that the Thunder basically jacked the Mavericks' whole flow here.
11. Denver Nuggets
We’re really feeling the maroon/navy blue contrast of the Nuggets rebrand from a few years back. What a funky colour combination.
10. Los Angeles Clippers
This one’s interesting! The greyed-out look will probably look nice on the court, with the red trim on one side and blue on the other coming off as fun little quirks. Still, though, this doesn’t stray too far from the Clippers jerseys we already know.
9. Utah Jazz
The Jazz wear a wide range of colours across their jersey selection, and while green isn’t one of those commonly associated with the team, it’s always a fun little switch-up for the Jazz. The bright green and yellow here really pops.
8. Los Angeles Lakers
These ones are solid, but it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity to not have gone with the Mamba jerseys in honour of Kobe instead.
7. Toronto Raptors
Honestly, we’re not sure if this use of the Raptors’ chevron concept — with the chevron on this jersey spanning from the upper chest to the shorts — is going to work on the court, but we at least respect the Raptors for trying something different. Also, it’s a massive win to get the throwback purple back in the mix.
6. Miami Heat
This yellow comes totally out of nowhere, and it probably isn’t the best looking tone of yellow out there, but honestly, we have mad respect for the Heat just going with something completely outside of their team colour palette. That’s always fun.
5. Portland Trail Blazers
You know, we generally don’t love greyscale jerseys, similar to the deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, but something about these really seems to work. That two-tone stripe across the jersey looks great. Finally, Damian Lillard gets to wear an Oakland Raiders jersey as a member of the Blazers.
4. Indiana Pacers
Whewww. The Pacers can run it back with their pinstripe jerseys as much as they want, we’ll never tire of this look.
3. Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers used this off-white colour scheme on their City Edition jersey last year, and it was one of our favourites in the league. Same deal this time around, with bonus points for the liberty bell taking the place of any city or team name text.
2. Milwaukee Bucks
You see those antlers on the side? Now that is master work in jersey detailing and doing something that only your team with its specific theme could. As nerds for good aesthetics, we are hooting, hollering and giving a standing ovation right now for this jersey.
1. Brooklyn Nets
YO. THE BROOKLYN NETS DO NOT MISS. The Nets took their herringbone court pattern, threw it on a jersey, added some MTA design elements, and earned the right to feel pretty good about themselves after a day of hard work. This is what it looks like when you refuse to do the least.
