One of the most important things to do when you are scheduled for an outdoor game is to prepare for the unexpected. The different air, ice, and atmosphere, as well as being exposed to the elements, gives outdoor games the feeling that anything can happen. On Saturday, the Stadium Series match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals did just that.
The Capitals were winning handily around halfway through the third when suddenly, boom, the lights went out.
Obviously the game needed to be halted. Player safety and the inability to see the puck are the main reasons why, and as a result the audience hilariously decided to take it upon themselves to help out as best they could.
It obviously wasn’t enough, but luckily the sound system was still working and with Bon Jovi pumping through the speakers, the fans were treated to a very concert-like atmosphere. The lights eventually came back on around 15 minutes later, leaving the event as a funny memory rather than an actual hockey obstacle.
And to think, Beyonce didn’t even play the halftime show here.
