Championship rings haven’t gotten flashier over the years, but there’s also a lot more detail that goes into today’s rings compared to rings of the past.
On Friday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning players received their Stanley Cup Championship rings and there’s a lot of detail that went into every single part of the ring.
The ring top features the Lightning logo created from genuine blue sapphires and the bolt of the logo features 12 custom-cut sapphires that are hand-set with another 18 custom-cut sapphires. The Stanley Cup consists of 79 diamonds and it also reads “STOCKHOLM” on the ring to represent their time at the NHL’s Global Series.
It also includes their motto “Distant Thunder”, which they started using to recognize their fans back home while they were in the bubble, and also has “Gravy Train” on it, which was their locker room victory song for the season.
They even show love to their hometown with the wave design that includes 146 pave-set diamonds and 12 custom-cut sapphires set in detailed wave pattern, and have 27 custom-cut blue sapphires to represent the amount of years they’ve been in Tampa Bay.
