The Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliot just can’t seem to see eye to eye on a new contract.
The two sides have been going back and forth throughout the offseason and just when it looked like an agreement was in sight, negotiations regressed. After Adam Schefter reported that talks between the Cowboys and Elliot were intensifying over the weekend, NFL Network’s Jane Slater tweeted on Monday that a deal is still “not close”.
Are you dizzy yet?
We’ve basically heard it all regarding the Zeke situation. Less than a week ago, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones expressed his belief that Elliot will games. Rookie Tony Pollard is expected to take over backfield duties in the meantime.
Elliot is set to earn $3.8 million and $9 million over the next two seasons respectively, and is trying to become the league’s highest paid running back after leading the league in rushing yards in both 2016 and 2018. With Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon also holding out, we could start week 1 without a couple of the NFL’s biggest names.
