Everyone knows that after 3pm ET on #TradeCentre Day, a bunch of deals are usually made and this year's deadline day was no different as there were a few big names dealt.
🚨#TradeCentre🚨: Tomas Tatar is joining the Vegas Golden Knights.
A post shared by TSN (@tsn_official) on
The Ryan McDonagh deal was by far the biggest one of the day as the Lightning gave up a number of assets to acquire the Rangers' captain.
I’m hearing TB sending to NYR: Libor Hajek, Brett Holden, Vladislav Nemestnikov, 2018 1st round pick, conditional second round pick. Confirmation to follow.

Damn, autocorrect. Brett Howden: https://t.co/zG1u94NmPn

Tampa was in on Karlsson, but they couldn't get a deal done with the Senators and instead traded with the Rangers for a defenceman that they think can get them over the hump and help them win a Stanley Cup.
Once the deals were made and the details emerged, the hockey world reacted accordingly to both trades.

Does Stevie Y have dirt on every GM in the league?

We didn’t have to give up Serg or Point. pic.twitter.com/ogXQPKfsq7

NO SERGACHEV?!!!!! WTF

It’s believed the conditional 2nd round pick TB sends to NYR changes to a first-round pick if TB wins the Cup this year or next year.

Hedman
McDonagh
Sergachev
Gross
That seems like a fair return for just McDonagh. Miller too? Yzerman just HOSED the Rangers. https://t.co/ae3OQkRpAi

The @TBLightning will be amazing to watch:
— Amelia McGuire (@amelixmcguire) February 26, 2018
Offense: Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Gourde, Johnson, Killorn, Palat
Defense: Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev, Stralman...
Goalie: Vasilevskiy
Oh my lord. Cup contenders. #TBLightning

Can I be excused from classes for the rest of the week after losing McDonagh and Miller #nyr
— Sara B (@sarabords99) February 26, 2018
That was a very high price for McDonagh. I can see why Pens didn't bite - but I see why Tampa did.

Am I the only one who likes the trade? #NYR #McDonagh
— Steve Link (@LINKsanity) February 26, 2018
The best part will be when Tampa wins a Cup with Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi as a defensive pair
— PuckCentral (@PuckCentral) February 26, 2018
Red-hot first take: I expected more for Miller AND McDonagh.
— Joe Fortunato (@JoeFortunatoBSB) February 26, 2018
That said: Miller is due for an enormous raise, and Namestnikov is basically a similar type player. Howden is a very good center prospect. Hajek seems to be something of a late bloomer, dominated the WJC this year
TB’s defence is going to look like:
— Oscar Gould (@peroxwhyLUSH) February 26, 2018
McDonagh - Heyman
Coburn - Stralman
Sergachev - Girardi
For the next two years, and that’s not counting Sustr and Koekkoek.
Vasilevskiy 3YL at 3.5M
Uh...multiple cupssssss. #TBLightning

— Brad (@ThisKindaBrad) February 26, 2018
McDonagh upgrades #GoBolts defensively while also giving them a blue liner who can score. JT Miller improves them in the face-off circle as well. Yzerman going all in.
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) February 26, 2018
Still not sure how you give up that much and dont get Sergachev when it was intially just McDonagh on the table it was Serg +more
— Aryeh Kaufman (@BKak47) February 26, 2018
Lot of people saying TB stole McDonagh 🧐
— Cowboys SuperBowl 53,54,55 champs (@Cogssss) February 26, 2018
Man, #NYR killed this deadline, but I gotta say, I think they lost that McDonagh deal. But, you also can't expect Gorton to outsmart Yzerman. Stevie Y may be the best GM in the league.
— JB (@JB_HockeyTalk) February 26, 2018
My lord, what the lightning gave up for McDonagh. It might be their year.
— Armando (@Mandoman12) February 26, 2018
Thoughts on #NYR McDonagh/Miller trade right now... pic.twitter.com/HiOT5E8BVp
— Ally Zimms (@allyz525) February 26, 2018
Red Wings do not retain any salary in Tatar deal, so that's 3 yrs at $5.3 M off the books. In return, get 1st, 2nd & 3rd picks from Vegas (1st is this year).
— Helene St. James (@HeleneStJames) February 26, 2018
A FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD FOR TATAR HOLY JUMPIN WE WON BIG IN SIN CITY GANG 🎲🎰🤑
— Red Wing Diehards™ (@RedWingDiehards) February 26, 2018
]A first, a second, and a third for Tatar is utter insanity for any team. It’s worse for Vegas.
— Scott Wheeler (@scottcwheeler) February 26, 2018
Wow... 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Tomas Tatar... Vegas pays the piper in that one.... gonna be interested to see what Tampa paid for McDonagh as well
— DartGuy (@LeafsMaz20) February 26, 2018
Ask me three years ago when everyone thought that Nyquist and Tatar would be the cornerstone players of this franchise that either one of them would be traded I would’ve laughed and said yeah right... sucks to see Tats go.
— Detroit Moments (@DetroitMoments) February 26, 2018
1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Tatar. Amazing haul for Detroit…wow. https://t.co/C8SEccdiOf
— Ryan Hana (@RyanHanaWWP) February 26, 2018
To clarify what we are giving up for Tatar, it is:
— Golden Knights Fans (@VGK_Fans) February 26, 2018
1st round 2018
2nd round 2019
3rd round 2021
And we are keeping Tatar, not renting him.
The Tatar trade was absolutely phenomenal, and the Green no-deal was absolutely terrible. Go figure.
— Ryan Hana (@RyanHanaWWP) February 26, 2018
NO salary retained in Tatar deal 🤙🏼
— Red Wing Diehards™ (@RedWingDiehards) February 26, 2018
Absolutely bonkers that Tatar fetched more than Kane
— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) February 26, 2018
Vegas sends 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks to Detroit for Tatar. Wow.

Tatar traded for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and you're saying that we couldn't get at least a 3rd for Vanek?
— Sean Avery (@NHLSeanAvery) February 26, 2018
Vegas took a massive L in the deal for Tatar
— Spencer 🏒CHI (27-28-8) (@FallinForDahlin) February 26, 2018
a team with like four prospects shouldnt be giving up a first, second, and third for tomas freakin tatar
— 🦖 i, rl 🦕 (@twolinepass) February 26, 2018
The good: Tatar traded for a fantastic haul.
— Ryan Hana (@RyanHanaWWP) February 26, 2018
The bad: Green not being traded due to Karlsson/McDonagh talks, injury, waiting too long, etc. Not moving Glendening when given the chance.
The ugly: Chatter about extending Holland.
For Tatar???
— Andrew Peters (@BesideCraig) February 26, 2018
I love the Tatar Haul. I do. I think the trade was a win for us, we have a 2018 first round pick now, So let’s land a stud this draft. I love Tatar I always have. I hope he finds success with VGK and I wish him the best. #Tats
